ALEX Reviews: StarWars The Force Awakens

StarWars The Force Awakens Review

TOAL BOX OFFICE GROSS: 2.02 Billion Dollars!!

I’ve been back on the Star Wars train for a bit now, after being super disappointed with the prequels, I watched the Clone Wars cartoon and absolutely fell in love all over again. So when Disney bought LucasFilm and announced that J.J. Abrams was going to direct StarWars VII, I was really excited. Especially after what he did to the Star Trek franchise.

It’s basically a really fast paced version of “A New Hope”.
There is one thing that really irked me throughout the entire film. In the span of one StarWars movie, the apprentice basically has Jedi Knight levels of power. This is without any training whatsoever mind you. Kylo Ren, the main vilain of the movie, a Sith Knight also does things a Sith lord has never done. Stop blaster fire in mid-air. He also get’s beat by an apprentice in a lightsaber battle. Very weird. Anyways, other than that, the story is great. SUPER fast paced , and is PACKED with characters.

JJ was smart in using practical effects for 90% of the movie. So overall, it was fantastic. However Snokes and that yellow grandma were all CGI, and weren’t very good. No reason he couldn’t use practical effects for those characters. A weird decision that might make these movies more dated than they should.

Fun Factor

So much fun. Can’t wait to see where the series goes from here. A very tight film by JJ. But a little too formulaic to be a classic in my opinion.
