⊕ The Cast
Solid acting all around except for one character who seemed very forced.
Bones (the doc) served as comic relief for a lot of the film, and his lines weren’t great. PLus the overacting didn’t help.
⊕ The character arcs
The crew go through hell in this epic flic. The real story here is how the crew starts off, and where they end up.
⊕ The ship “porn”
There’s something sexy about the enterprise (you gotta admit). This movie focuses so much on that it deserves to be mentioned. Justin Lin really brought in some of his Fast and Furious car porn into this movie. The Enterprise is now the sexiest ship in Sci-Fi, eclipsing the Millennium Falcon in my opinion.
⊕ The makeup effects
The makeup effects are flat out incredible. Not much else to say on that one …
[su_spoiler title=”The Bad” class=”my-custom-spoiler_bad”]
⊕ The absent story
The twist wasn’t good, and the actual conflict is very random, and things generally don’t make much sense. But hey, at least it looks cool right?
⊕ The bad CGI
The movie starts with TERRIBLE cgi, I mean like Phantom Menace bad. Thankfully it get’s better, but some bad textures pop in now and then, enough that you’ll notice.
⊕ The so-so villain
A big baddy, with an army of drones with terrible aim. At one point Kirk just drives a dirt bike through a whole platoon of them without getting shot. These fools need better guns.
The movie jumps from one set-piece to the other, with very little story. It’s all pretty tiring, and you’ll wish the movie was 30 minutes shorter.
